WELCOME TO THE PLACERITA JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL DANCE ELECTIVE PROGRAM!!!
PLACERITA JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
DANCE
Teacher: Mrs. Sucheck
***A SPECIAL NOTE FROM MRS SUCHECK**
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Placerita Dance!! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Tammi Sucheck and this year will be my 24th year teaching Dance at PJHS. My philosophy as a teacher has always been about exposing as many students as possible to the art of DANCE. The wonderful thing about this program is that ALL students are invited to participate and there is absolutely no experience required.
All classes, Beginning through Advanced, have students with a wide range of skills, and I make every effort to challenge each student; to build on their strengths and improve in their areas of weakness. Students who have completed Beginning Dance as 7th graders will be the first to fill up the Intermediate Dance class, Advanced Dance is a performance group consisting of fifteen to twenty five students who have an extensive background and exemplary technical skills in dance. Beginning Dance is usually reserved for 7th grade students or 8th grade students who have not taken dance as 7th graders . Don’t let the name “Beginning” fool you…..these classes are high energy and challenging. Often, we are doing the same choreography as the other classes, just at a slower pace.
Beginning Dance
Beginning Dance is a year- long elective that explores several areas of movement. There is strong emphasis on hip-hop and basic jazz technique, but classes may also learn Latin, Social, and Contemporary Dance. This course is designed to introduce and promote the art of dance and encourage physical, social, emotional, and artistic growth. Students are given the opportunity to develop their own creativity through various performance opportunities and choreography projects. Experienced and non-experienced dancers are welcome to take this elective, as it will prove rewarding and challenging for all levels.
Intermediate Dance
Intermediate Dance is a year- long elective for students who have successfully completed Beginning Dance or have auditioned to be in the class. Intermediate Dance picks up where Beginning Dance left off. It is designed to improve technique and performance, while promoting physical, social, emotional, and artistic growth. Students will gain an extensive “dance vocabulary” and will also explore their own creativity through various performance opportunities and choreography projects.
Advanced Dance
Advanced Dance is a year- long elective designed for students who have an extensive background in dance. Students must audition or gain permission from the teacher to be in this class. Advanced Dance has the same goals and objectives as the other courses, but moves at a faster pace, covers a variety of styles, and focuses on principles of choreography. Advanced Dance students are expected to maintain good grades, be actively involved in performances and productions, and to be responsible for representing/promoting Placerita’s dance program. Advanced Dancers will have several performance opportunities throughout the school year.
